Andranik Soghoyan will be released if the Ministry of Justice does not appeal the Court Decision

Court of General Jurisdiction of Kentron and Nork-Marash Districts Court denied the motion of the RA Ministry of Justice to apply the arrest as a precautionary measure against Andranik Soghonyan, who was found and arrested on 28 October. News.am had informed about this on 24 January.

The Ministry of Justice confirmed the information on this decision and added that the Ministry is considering the future steps. “We study the possibilities of appeal, but I cannot say anything more,” Tsovinar Khachatryan, the Minister’s press secretary said.

Under Article 379 of the RA Criminal Procedure Code the Ministry of Justice can file an appeal within 5 days after the denial that is the last day is 29 January. If the Ministry of justice does not appeal the Court Decision Andranik Soghoyan will be released.

According to the official police report, the Prague Municipal Court had sentenced Andranik Soghoyan (DoB  1968) in absentia to 22 years in prison pursuant to Article 219 parts 1 and 2 (Murder), Article 235 Part 1, (extortion) of the Criminal Code of the Czech Republic.

On 20.11.2014, the Law Enforcement Authorities of the Czech Republic issued a European arrest warrant and announced international search against Andranik Soghoyan.
