Inessa Petrosyan – defender of Shant Harutyunyan, his son Shahen Harutyunyan and accused Vardan Vardanyan, made a defense speech at the court sitting on the case “Shant Harutyunyan and friends” today at the Court of general jurisdiction of administrative regions Kentron and Nork-Marash. She reminded that on the day of incident there were provocators at the Freedom Square, one of whom approached Shant and incited provocative actions. And then she added that passing to the Mashtots avenue a victim of the case police-officer Gegham Khachatryan attacked and hit Shant Harutyunyan without any warning.
She presented her position in details and concluded that the police had prepared a provocation against her defendant beforehand. “This can also be reasoned by the fact that during the last days of initiating a court case the preliminary investigatory body brought up accusations against Shahen Harutyunyan trying to pressure his father Shant Harutyunyan. On 5 November, 2013 the police knew that Shant Harutyunyan and his friends were organizing a march, and it is not a coincidence that on that day there was a concentration of police forces”, the lawyer stated. She concluded that her defendants should be justified.
Today`s court sitting was postponed as the lawyers of other defendants did not prepare their speeches. Next court sitting is scheduled for October 1.
