”They didn’t know there was a retreat order, they thought they shouldn’t abandon their position, they fought until the end”: The story of hero Arnold Hovsepyan

“You’ll see, years will pass, I may never meet you again, but your son has very deep, penetrating eyes, you’ll see what a good man he will become,” the doctor treating Arnold Hovsepyan had told him, as his mother, Anahit Zakaryan, recounts within the framework of Iravaban.net‘s “Immortal Victims of the Artsakh War” series.

She explains that her son gave a lot of love to everyone and often expressed that he needed to go to the army to defend his homeland and his mother.

“He gave excessive love, I didn’t understand that he was giving me that love for the rest of my life. His father believed the boy should serve. He was also waiting for it. He had such an upright, beautiful military bearing. He started training 8 months before going to serve, he was so happy. He was serving in Jrakan. He would tell me, ‘Mom, I love my posts so much,'” the mother recalls.

As soon as Arnold’s father heard the drums of war unleashed on September 27, 2020, he departed for the battlefield. Arnold’s first and only call during the war days was on October 1st.

“He told me, ‘Mom, we’re going to win, it’s war, but you take good care of yourself, who’s beside you, tell them that I’m telling everyone we’re going to win, Mom, I’m not afraid, I’m here to defend my homeland and you.’ My son was immortalized with his friends on October 2nd,” the mother relates.
