A three-day mourning has been announced in Dagestan in memory of more than 15 victims of militant attacks in Makhachkala and Derbent. Head of the Republic of Dagestan, Sergey Melikov informed.
“June 24, 25 and 26 are declared mourning days in Dagestan. The corresponding decree was signed by Sergey Melikov,” TASS quoted from the message.
State flags will be lowered throughout the country on the days of mourning. Cultural institutions and TV and radio companies in the region will cancel all entertainment events and programs.
“The Government of the Republic of Dagestan has been instructed to take necessary measures to provide assistance to the families of the victims and injured,” the authorities said.
On the evening of 23 June, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Dagestan, a subject of the Russian Federation, reported an attack on a synagogue and a church in Derbent, as well as an Orthodox church and a traffic police station in Makhachkala. As a result of the attacks, 15 law enforcement officers and several civilians were killed, and 16 people were injured. An anti-terrorist operation regime has been introduced in these cities.
