Cases of a new strain of COVID-19 have been found in Turkey

Fahrettin Koca, Health Minister of Turkey, announced that 9 cases of Eris, one of the types of Omicron disease caused by the mutation of COVID-19, have been registered in Turkey, Ermenihaber reports.

“We cannot consider it as a non-worrisome situation. We will continue the regular activities. Such a situation is widespread in other countries, it could be the same in our country,” the minister said.

As symptoms of the disease, Koca mentioned runny nose, stuffy nose, joint pain, pain in the eye area, dry cough, fatigue, and added that people with such complaints should definitely undergo PCR testing for COVID-19.

The medical biology and genetics specialist Dr.-Professor Nedime Serakıncı noted that the symptoms of “Eris” also include sore throat and diarrhea.

The Minister of Health of Turkey also stated that at the moment there is no need to introduce strictures in people’s daily lives, and in individual cases, such as in the case of the elderly and those with chronic diseases, measures should be taken to wear a mask.

It should be noted that the first case of the new strain of coronavirus, “Eris”, was discovered in February 2023 in Indonesia.
