Scientists have found similarities between the consequences of covid and Alzheimer’s disease

Scientists from Columbia University (New York State) believe that the feeling of “fog” in the head after suffering a coronavirus may be caused by processes similar to those that occur in Alzheimer’s disease. The results of their research are presented in an article published in the journal Alzheimer’s and Dementia. TASS news agency reports.

Some patients who have had coronavirus complain of confusion and problems with coordination, difficulties when trying to concentrate. The reason may be the so-called tauopathies – brain defects resulting from the clumping of tau protein due to inflammatory processes as a result of the coronavirus. Similar defects appear in Alzheimer’s disease.

A study of the brains of patients who died from coronavirus showed that they really have similar defects – neurofibrillary tangles. Previously, they were known to scientists for Alzheimer’s disease. As a result, scientists conclude that similar methods and drugs, which are used to combat the symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease, can be used to treat the “fog” in the head after coronavirus,
