Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan informs:

“Dear compatriots,

On the initiative of a group of members of the Yerevan Council of Elders, a special session was convened this week, where the issue of increasing the salaries of about 2000 employees of the municipality was discussed.

In terms of the system, this will enable the involvement of qualified staff to serve the city and its citizens.

But the law requires an increase in the mayor’s salary in order to increase the salaries of other employees.

I have already had the opportunity to express my position in this regard. The person who assumed a public position as a result of the revolution should not strive to increase his own salary. Therefore, I am categorically against the increase of my salary; that is why I will not take part in the voting. And if the decision is made by the vote of the Council of Elders, I will refuse that extra amount, I will receive the same salary as I received during these 2.5 years, that is, 415,000 drams.

The increased amount will be directed to charity.”
