The CSTO is unlikely to take any real action in connection with Armenia’s appeal, Nikitina, an expert from MGIMO and the Russian International Affairs Council: RIA Novosti

The CSTO is unlikely to take any real action in connection with Armenia’s appeal, Nikitina, an expert from MGIMO and the Russian International Affairs Council, told the “RIA Novosti“.

She drew attention to the fact that Armenia’s appeal will be considered under Article 2 of the Collective Security Treaty (threat to security), and not under Article 4 (armed attack).

“The very fact that Armenia applied specifically under Article 2 suggests that it is rather a question of a signal to Azerbaijan that Armenia is ready to involve the international community, a regional bloc represented by the CSTO.

The first article can provide a maximum of some kind of joint discussion, a joint statement, but not any action. Real actions are unlikely based on the form of appeal.”
