Lavrov and Bayramov discussed the situation on the Azerbaijani-Armenian border

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his Azerbaijani counterpart Jeyhun Bayramov discussed the escalation of the situation on the Azerbaijani-Armenian border over the phone, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported.

“In connection with the aggravation of the situation on the Azerbaijani-Armenian border, the Russian side, as before during the telephone conversation between S.V. Lavrov and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia A.G. Ayvazyan, the need for strict adherence to the ceasefire regime was confirmed, as well as the strict implementation of other provisions of the statements of the leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia and Russia dated 9 November, 2020 and 11 January, 2021,” the statement of the ministry says

During the conversation, the parties also noted the need to resolve all such incidents exclusively through political and diplomatic methods.

The RA Ministry of Defence informs that on 13 May, the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, again with the justification of “adjustment of border”, carried out another provocation against the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia, trying to ensure positional advance in the border areas of Vardenis and Sisian.

In both cases, as a result of the actions of the RA Armed Forces, the advance was stopped, the Azerbaijani side was demanded to leave the territory immediately and return to their starting positions.

The Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Armenia describes these actions taken by Azerbaijan since 12 May, as an open provocation, in order to avoid unpredictable developments, urges the armed forces of that country to return to their starting positions immediately, to refrain from encroachments on the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia.
