Countries around the world are suspending transport links to the island. Among those who have already banned air travel and train traffic are Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Austria, Argentina and Canada. Some of the Baltic states, in particular Latvia and Estonia, followed their example. Similar measures have been taken in Finland. France has suspended flights to Great Britain for 48 hours, and the Czech Republic has introduced a mandatory quarantine for all arriving from the United Kingdom. NTV reported.
In Saudi Arabia, they went even further. After reports of a new mutation of the coronavirus, they announced a complete stop of international flights with all foreign countries.
The situation with the spread of the new strain is being closely monitored by experts from the World Health Organization. According to them, the mutated virus may be more infectious.
In the UK itself, an emergency meeting of the Emergency Committee will be held today. Boris Johnson will conduct it. The authorities plan to discuss problems around transport links with other countries.
More than two million infected people have been registered in the UK, and over the past day a new anti-record was recorded there – almost 36 thousand new cases. In London, a fourth – maximum – threat level was introduced. Hairdressers, gyms and non-food stores have closed in the capital. Residents of London began to leave the city en masse after the authorities announced tougher quarantine measures.
