The trial against the advocate Arshavir Khalapyan is in the focus of the Armenian Young Lawyers Association.
The Armenia Young Lawyers Association expresses its deep concern about the ongoing trial against the advocate Arshavir Khalapyan.
Causes for our concern are a number of violations during the conducted proceeding, and the Armenian Young Lawyers Association had issued a statements regarding to those violations.
We believe that Arshavir Khalapyan’s actions do not include the features of crime. In addition, the act does not assume public danger. Moreover, the act attributed to A. Khalapyan is refuted by the statement of his clients, where they express their satisfaction with Arshavir Khalapyan’s work and want him to continue protection of their rights.
Comparison of the above facts, as well as the circumstance that the prosecutor required to apply punishment of imprisonment for the term of two years, in case where he could require just application of a fine, as well as being well aware of the right protective activities that Arshavir Khalapyan carried out during his work, the public importance of the cases he had dealt with, as well as having in view his character as of a skillful and courageous advocate, we believe that the case initiated against Arshavir Khalapyan is aimed at impeding his professional activities.
The Armenian Young lawyers Association expects that the court which considers Arshavir Khalapyan’s case will be wise and examine the case observing all requirements of justice and as an independent and impartial court.
