The UN Human Rights Council discussed the 2nd Periodic Report of Armenia

On 22 January, in Geneva at the 21st session of the UN Human Rights Council Universal Periodic Review Working Group the 2nd Periodic Report of Armenia’s human rights record was examined; the Press Service of the RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs informs.

Ashot Hovakimyan, Deputy Foriegn Minister of the RA led the Armenian delegation. Representatives from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Justice, Labor and Social Affairs, Health, Education and Science, as well as from the Prosecutor General’s Office, RA Police, State Migration Service and the National Commission on Television and Radio.

The discussion of the Report was held in an atmosphere of constructive dialogue. The head of the delegation presented the report on the implementation of the commitments undertaken in the field of human rights law, the recorded reforms, and the measures undertaken by the Government as well as the planned activities. Members of the delegation presented the situation in their areas, as well as the implemented and the planned works.

The Armenian delegation members answered to the written and oral questions presented by the UN Memeber states’ representatives as well as referred to the questions raised in the alternative reports.

Representatives from 71 countries made speeches in the framework of the UPR report of Armenia. The discussion will be followed by the recommendations of other countries and it approval.

Armenia’s first UPR review took place on 6 May 2010. The report is presented in intervals of 4.5 years.
