Some Events and Moods among the Armenian Elites cause our Concern: Secretary General of the CSTO

Armenia has not recently participated in the work of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Secretariat, but the Secretariat has not received an official statement from Yerevan about the suspension of membership, CSTO Secretary General Imangali Tasmagambetov said, RIA Novosti reports.

CSTO currently includes Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan.

“Yerevan, indeed, has not recently participated in the work of the CSTO Secretariat, this is Armenia’s decision at this stage, and we, as an international organization, respect any decision of a sovereign state, but the activities of the organization continue in full. All procedures are observed in full compliance with the CSTO normative framework, the Secretariat regularly informs the relevant structures of Yerevan about the decisions made,” Tasmaghambetov said in an interview with “National Defense” magazine.

According to him, the CSTO Secretariat works strictly in accordance with the regulations and procedures adopted by the organization.

“Of course, with the help of our analysts and the tools available to them, we analyze the situation around Armenia and the relations between Armenia and the CSTO. I will not hide that some events and moods among the Armenian elites cause concern for us, but we hope for the political sobriety of the Armenian leadership and a balanced assessment of the prospects for the implementation of various scenarios related to the organization.

I want to emphasize that Armenia remains our ally, all existing commitments remain in force,” CSTO Secretary General said.
