French citizen Martin Ryan was arrested in Azerbaijan on suspicion of espionage. As Lenta.ru informs, the Ambassador of Azerbaijan to France, Leyla Abdullayeva, said.
The ambassador said that the French citizen was detained on 4 December “on suspicion of espionage”.
According to Abdullayeva, Azerbaijan decided to detain Ryan for four months and notify Paris about it. The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not comment on the situation.
Earlier, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov announced that Baku invited Paris to help investigate the activities of the French intelligence network in Azerbaijan, but did not receive a response to the offer.
Azerbaijan declared two employees of the French Embassy persona non grata and demanded that they leave the country within 48 hours.
