The Court of Appeal of Baku examined the verdict of Vagif Khachatryan, who was sentenced to 15 years in prison in a fabricated case.
Khachatryan’s lawyer Radmila Abilova stated that her client does not agree with the verdict of the Baku military court, by which he was sentenced to 15 years in prison, and demanded to be acquitted.
Then, Vagif Khachatryan spoke, saying that he and his lawyer filed an appeal.
According to Azerbaijani media, Khachatryan said:
“I did not take part in those battles, I am innocent. I was not there and I did not see anyone. I was detained in the Lachin Corridor. Please release me.”
State prosecutor Tarana Mamedova asked not to accept the complaint.
The trial will last until 15 January.
Let’s remind that on 7 November, 2023, Vagif Khachatryan was sentenced to 15 years in prison in a fabricated case in Baku “for committing genocide” (quotes from Iravaban.net). Despite the pressures against him, Khachatryan regularly declared in court hearings that he had not committed any crime and did not recognize himself guilty.
