We fled from the village of Berdashen in the Martuni region with only the clothes that we wear: Ira told Soghomonyan in the framework of “Artsakh: Armenian Genocide 2023. Stories of Survivors” series of Iravaban.net.
Describing the aggression unleashed by the enemy on 19 September, she says that they were running here and there and did not know where to take shelter.
“We took shelter behind our house and were afraid to come out. Then we got together, reached Stepanakert and then came by buses. I found my daughter and her children there, “she said.
Mrs. Ira states that they lived in fear during the ten months of the blockade, but they thought that they should continue to survive in Artsakh. “But, unfortunately, it was arranged in such a way that we could not live in our native homes.”
According to her, the reality that happened in Artsakh was nothing but genocide.
“It was genocide: the 1915. All the superpowers are silent. Everyone should have stood up like one person in order not to let the Turkish criminals take us out of our homes. After 100 years, the same story was repeated, Armenians have come out to path of migration again,” Ira Soghomonyan says.
