Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov discussed the process of normalization of relations between Baku and Yerevan with his Russian counterpart Mikhail Galuzin during his visit to Russia, the press service of the Azerbaijani MFA reports. RIA Novosti writes.
“As part of his visit to Russia, the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan Elnur Mammadov met with the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Mikhail Galuzin. Mammadov updated Galuzin about the situation and process in the region in the post-conflict period. The work aimed at the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia and the work carried out in the direction of promoting the peace agenda.
Last year, Yerevan and Baku started discussing the future peace treaty with the mediation of Russia, the USA and the European Union. At the end of May of this year, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that Yerevan is ready to recognize the sovereignty of Azerbaijan within the Soviet borders, that is, together with Karabakh. As the head of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has stated, Azerbaijan and Armenia can sign a peace agreement before the end of the year, if Yerevan does not change its position,” the report says.
