On the occasion of the International Women’s Day, Iravaban.net to Milena Manukyan, Investigator of the Department of Investigation of Cybercrime and High Technology Crime of the General Department of Investigation of Particularly Important Cases within the framework of “The Investigator Presents” series.
In her opinion, great skill is needed to break the bad attitude towards the investigator.
– The employees of the Investigative Committee mostly are men. Have you encountered any difficulties in this regard during your work?
– Armenian women get a lot of attention from men; they try to support them in every matter. There are more men in the Investigation Committee and they help us in our work and cheer us up.
– What are the complications of working in a men’s team, especially in such a field?
– I cannot mention complications as such. There are stereotypes in the society that the investigator must necessarily be a man. There was even a funny incident related to it. A person came to my office, saw me, looked around in surprise and asked if Manukyan would come late. They do not imagine that a woman may be the investigator.
– What risks does the investigator’s work contain in general?
– One of the characteristics of the investigator’s work is that all persons involved in the proceedings – the witness, the accused, and in some cases the victim – consider you as a party to the conflict. They think that they will definitely have some kind of conflict with you, so it is necessary to hide the truth, even when that truth will fully testify in their favor. They can be very sharp to everything you say.
