The Kremlin responded to Nikol Pashinyan’s statement

Russian peacekeepers are doing everything possible to ensure order and peace in Karabakh, acting in accordance with the spirit and letter of the agreements, Dmitry Peskov, Press Secretary of the Russian President said, “RIA Novosti” reports.

Earlier, Pashinyan stated that de facto, the commitment recorded in the Trilateral Statement, that is, to keep the Lachin Corridor under control, is also not fulfilled by the Peacekeeping Troops of the Russian Federation.

“Russian Peacekeepers do their best to ensure order and peace in the areas where they work. And act solely in accordance with the spirit and letter of the relevant documents signed between the countries. We, of course, will continue to discuss this topic with our Armenian partners,” Peskov told reporters.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation announced earlier that on 12 December, the Azerbaijani side closed the Stepanakert-Goris road, the only highway connecting Nagorno-Karabakh with Armenia, regarding which the command of the Russian Peacekeeping Force is negotiating with representatives of Azerbaijan.

Nikol Pashinyan also noted: “Of course, this happens as a result of Azerbaijan’s illegal actions, but this does not change the situation, because the main purpose of the presence of the Russian Peacekeeping Troops is to prevent the occurrence of such illegality, and in particular to keep the Lachin Corridor under control.”
