The CSTO is not yet fully ready to repulse hybrid attacks against the members of the organization, but it is developing in this direction, said Secretary General of the organization Stanislav Zas, RIA Novosti reports.
“Now there are various forms of hybrid influence. Both purely military, and sanctions-economic, and informational, and political. This is what we are talking about when we talk about hybrid attacks. I would say that no, the CSTO is not fully ready to this kind of opposition,” Zas said in an interview with the Belarusian TV channel ONT.
According to him, there are objective reasons for this. “After all, our organization was originally created to repel exclusively military threats to the security of our states. During these 20 years, a very strong transformation has taken place, we are increasingly turning into a comprehensive platform for ensuring the security of our states. These are threats of a terrorist nature, this is drug trafficking, and crime, including in the field of ICT. That is, the systems of interaction between our countries are merging. And this corresponds to the question of whether we are ready … Yes, we are not ready yet, but we are moving towards this,” the Secretary General emphasized.
