The US Democratic Party has retained control of the Senate as a result of the victory of Senator Catherine Cortez-Masto of Nevada.
Her opponent, Republican candidate Adam Laxalt, was in the lead for a while when the votes were counted. After 98% of the ballots have been counted, according to the Politico website, Cortez-Masto has 48.8% of the votes, Laxalt – 48.1%.
As a result, Democrats guaranteed themselves 50 out of 100 seats in the Senate.
It is not yet known which party will collect the majority of votes in the House of Representatives. As of 13 November, the Republicans guaranteed themselves 211 seats, and the Democrats – 203.
218 votes are needed to control the House of Representatives.
