French President Emmanuel Macron had a telephone conversation with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, where he expressed his readiness to support the normalization of relations between Yerevan and Baku. The Press Service of the Elysee Palace announced on Saturday, 12 November.
The French leader also welcomed the stabilizing effect of the European Union’s civilian observation mission on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, the decision on the deployment of which was reached on 6 October in Prague during the four-way meeting of Emmanuel Macron, European Council President Charles Michel, Ilham Aliyev and RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. The Elysee Palace also announced that Emmanuel Macron and Nikol Pashinyan will meet on 19 November in Tunis within the framework of the summit of French-speaking countries.
In the press release of the Azerbaijani side, it is noted that Aliyev emphasized to Macron the importance of neutrality and a balanced approach in the process of regulating relations between Baku and Yerevan.
According to that message, Aliyev also noted that the statements of the Armenian side in recent days “contrary to the normalization of relations between the two countries and the peaceful agenda”.
