During a mass demonstration against the rising cost of living in Paris, clashes occurred between a group of aggressive demonstrators and the police accompanying the march. The police responded with tear gas, “TASS” reports.
Yesterday, one of the organizers of the march, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, the leader of one of the organizers of the march – the political movement “Disobedient France, told Ouest-France that he condemned the episodes of violence that the hooligans could provoke during the demonstration. According to him, such a development of events “can only be beneficial for French President Emmanuel Macron”, but not for the protesters.
The participants of the march shout slogans criticizing the government’s actions in the face of inflation and the energy crisis, and also demand freezing of electricity and gas prices, raising the minimum amount of social benefits, not raising the retirement age and raising the minimum pension.
Mélenchon wrote on Twitter that 140,000 people are participating in the demonstration. At the same time, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the country predicted the participation of about 30 thousand people. In addition to the activists and supporters of the left political parties that organized the rally, there are also representatives of trade unions and youth organizations among the participants of the demonstration.
