Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that during the meeting that began in Astana on Friday with colleagues from Armenia and Azerbaijan, he hopes to discuss the implementation of the agreements of the presidents of the three countries from 2020 and 2021 in order to understand “how to move forward.” TASS news agency writes.

“Based on the fact that time is running fast, events are developing quite rapidly, I believe that today is a very convenient occasion to talk about this topic and see what we can report to our leaders regarding the implementation of the agreements that they signed,” Lavrov said, opening trilateral meeting of the foreign ministers of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia.

The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry expressed confidence that during the meeting it would be possible “to better understand how to move forward.”

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, in turn, noted that since the last meeting in a trilateral format in May this year, a significant number of contacts have taken place both on a bilateral and multilateral basis.

“It seems to me that from this point of view, it would be useful to talk, discuss issues, the development that has taken place over this period of time. At least on our part, we will focus on the dimension of post-conflict settlement that the foreign ministers are directly responsible for: this issues of the peace treaty, on which we recently had a meeting,” Bayramov said.

He added that it would be useful to talk “on other issues of a peaceful settlement, including the delimitation of the state border, the opening of communications,” as well as issues of a humanitarian nature.

Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said that he considers the meeting a good opportunity to find solutions to the problems of normalizing relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as the problems of the Nagorno-Karabakh settlement in line with the statements of the presidents of the three countries.
