Numerous criminal cases on abuses and corruption schemes committed in Yerevan cemeteries have been under the control of the Prosecutor’s Office.
According to Yerevan Prosecutor Sevak Hovhannisyan, the beginning of the disclosure of such cases was set in 2019, based on the studies conducted by the mayor of Yerevan.
He mentions that the main violations took place in closed cemeteries. New graves have been allocated on the basis of forged grave certificates.
According to the Yerevan Municipality, legal changes will be initiated in the “Special Service of Population” to eliminate abuses in the field of land allocation in Yerevan cemeteries. It is planned to create an online platform for providing services, the money will be collected exclusively electronically. This will not only make the process more transparent, but also save citizens time.
The task of the Prosecutor’s Office at the moment is to start from some point. Sevak Hovhannisyan notes that it is too early to talk about the results, but the result is that those problems have been revealed and raised.
