Charles Michel has been re-elected as President of the European Council for a second term, until November 30, 2024. This is stated in the statement of the EU summit, which takes place on Thursday, the 24 March in Brussels.
“The European Council today re-elected Charles Michel as President for a second term of two and a half years, from 1 June 2022 to 30 November 2024. Charles Michel was also re-appointed as President of the European Summit for the same period,” the statement said, according to TASS News Agency.
As specified in the document, Michel “is the third full president of the European Council after the establishment of this position on December 1, 2009 in accordance with the Treaty of Lisbon.”
The President of the European Council is elected by the leaders of the EU member states every two and a half years.
