“The war in Ukraine is so devastating that 10 million have fled – either displaced inside the country, or as refugees abroad,” UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi wrote on Twitter.
He stressed that people in all regions of the world who have been forced to flee their homes due to hostilities are suffering.
According to the UN, 3,328,692 refugees crossed the border into neighboring countries from the beginning of the war in Ukraine till 19 March, of which more than 2 million crossed the border with Poland.
Romania is next with 518,269 refugees, followed by Moldova with 359,056.
It should be reminded that early in the morning of 24 February, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the launch of a special military operation in Ukraine, aimed at ensuring the security of the Donetsk and Luhansk republics, as well as removing the “Nazi regime” in Ukraine.
The United States and the European Union have described Russia’s move as a direct aggression by Russia against Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
The Verkhovna Rada has declared martial law in Ukraine.
