Russian troops are 20 kilometers south of the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, on the left bank of the Dnieper River, but it is unclear how they plan to attack the city of 3.5 million. The Ukraine’s Chargé d’Affaires in Armenia Denis Avtonomov told journalists at a press conference at the Ukrainian Embassy.
“They tried to besiege the city several times. As far as I know, modern methods of warfare do not provide algorithms for capturing a city with a population of 3.5 million and accumulation of 8-10 million. It is a mystery to everyone how they are going to attack Kiev! Initially, they did not plan to attack the big cities, Kiev and the regional centers,” the Ukrainian diplomat described the situation.
It should be reminded that early in the morning of 24 February, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the launch of a special military operation in Ukraine, aimed at ensuring the security of the Donetsk and Luhansk republics, as well as removing the “Nazi regime” in Ukraine.
The US and the EU have assessed Russia’s move as a direct aggression by Russia against Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
The Verkhovna Rada has declared martial law in Ukraine.
