There is hope for compromise in the negotiations with Ukraine: Lavrov

The Russian side notes that the negotiations with Ukraine are not going well, but there is some hope for a compromise. The statement came from Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in an interview with RBC on Wednesday, TASS News Agency reported.

“I am guided by the assessments of our negotiators, they note that the negotiations are not going well for understandable reasons, but, nevertheless, there is a certain hope to reach a compromise. Such assessments are made by some negotiators on the Ukrainian side, including some members of the presidential staff,” Lavrov said.

Lavrov said that Russia will be ready for future contacts with Ukraine, but it is necessary to understand what its added value will be.

The Minister reminded that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky asked Turkish President Tayyip Erdoğan and Russian President Vladimir Putin to hold a ministerial meeting in Antalya within the framework of a diplomatic forum.

“Taking into account that such a request has been received, the President instructed me to hold such a meeting and listen to what Mr. Kuleba has to offer,” he added.

It should be reminded that early in the morning of 24 February, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the launch of a special military operation in Ukraine, aimed at ensuring the security of the Donetsk and Luhansk republics, as well as removing the “Nazi regime” in Ukraine.

The United States and the European Union have described Russia’s move as a direct aggression by Russia against Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.

The Verkhovna Rada has declared martial law in Ukraine.
