Russia does not want to overthrow the Ukrainian Government: Maria Zakharova

The goals of the war do not include the overthrow of the current Government in Ukraine. The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova stated at a briefing, Ukrainian Pravda reports.

“The tasks given to the Russian armed forces do not include the occupation of Ukraine, the destruction of its statehood, or the overthrow of the current government. It is not directed against the civilian population,” she said.

According to the website, one of the reasons for the Kremlin’s attack is the unfaithfulness of the Ukrainian authorities to the Russian occupiers and the refusal to hand over Donbas.

It is mentioned that Vladimir Putin calls the Ukrainian leadership a “gang of drug addicts and neo-Nazis”, and the war – “Denatification”. After a few days of war, Russia, seeing that it was not succeeding, began to change and reduce its demands. On 7 March, the Kremlin assured that they were completing the demilitarization of Ukraine.

It should be reminded that early in the morning of 24 February; Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the launch of a special military operation in Ukraine, aimed at ensuring the security of the Donetsk and Luhansk republics, as well as removing the “Nazi regime” in Ukraine.

The United States and the European Union have described Russia’s move as a direct aggression by Russia against Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.

The Verkhovna Rada has declared martial law in Ukraine.
