The United Kingdom has added Sberbank to its sanctions list. TASS News Agency reported.
The Russian Sberbank was included in the list of British sanctions, which was updated on Tuesday morning. According to the document, sanctions were imposed on the correspondent accounts of Sberbank, and clearing operations in the amount of sterling are prohibited.
“Sberbank CJSC participates in or supports the acquisition of privileges from the Russian government,” the reasoning of the decision reads.
It also emphasizes that Sberbank, being the largest bank in the Russian Federation in terms of assets, is an exceptional player in the field of Russian financial services, which is of strategic importance for the Russian government.
