Ukrainian fighter jet was shot down by its own air defenses in the skies of Kiev, RIA Novosti was told by a source in the Russian Defense Ministry.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the alleged bombing of residential areas of the city, “as in 1941”.
“No rocket attacks were carried out on Kiev by the Russian armed forces,” the source said.
It was noted that the appearance of a bright fire in the night sky over the Ukrainian capital on 25 February, followed by the fall of a fighter on a residential building, has a completely different explanation.
“Last night, a Su-27 fighter jet of the Ukrainian Air Force carried out air patrol missions in the skies of Kiev. One of the Ukrainian anti-aircraft missile systems deployed near Kiev mistakenly identified it as a target for firing,” the source said.
