Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered the army to enter separatist controlled areas in the Ukraine’s Luhansk and Donetsk regions, which Moscow recognized as sovereign states on the evening of 21 February. According to Putin, the Russian army will “carry out a mission to ensure peace in the Donetsk-Luhansk People’s Republics.”
“Taking into account the application of the Donetsk People’s Republic, I order the Ministry of Defense to ensure peace in the territory of the Donetsk People’s Republic through the Russian Armed Forces before concluding a treaty of friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance,” Putin said in a statement.
The Russian Defense Ministry has also received a similar order to operate in the Luhansk People’s Republic.
It should be reminded that on 21 February, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the recognition of the independence of the so-called Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics.
Putin accused Kiyev of aggravating the situation, saying that Russia has done everything to preserve the territorial integrity of the Ukraine.
