By Resolution 42/112 of 7 December 1987, the General Assembly decided to observe 26 June as the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking as an expression of its determination to strengthen action and cooperation to achieve the goal of an international society free of drug abuse.
In the same year, based on the recommendations of the international conference the comprehensive program of future fight against drugs was adopted. Members of Shanghai Opium Commission 1909, which include 13 countries tried to find possibilities of restriction of the ways of import of drugs from Asian the countries.
According to the the UN, the number of the world’s drug users range from 3.3% to 6.5%, among them people from 15 to 64 years of age. This includes the number of people who used drugs at least once in a year.
According to the National Statistical Service of the RA, 372 drug-related crimes were registered in 2012 in Armenia against 515 such crimes in 2011.
