Almaty airport will not resume operations before 14 January, the dates will be announced later, the press service of the airport reported.

“Yes, we confirm,” representative of the press service told reporters when asked to comment on social media posts.

It should be reminded that the protest actions in Kazakhstan started in the first days of 2022, in the town of Janaoze and Aktau Mangistau region (south-west of the country), where residents rallied against high fuel prices. Two days later, riots broke out in Almaty (east), the republic’s former capital and the largest city.

In response, the authorities declared a state of emergency throughout the country until 19 January and launched an anti-terrorist operation.
