The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) peacekeeping forces will complete its mission after the situation in Kazakhstan stabilizes, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said. INTERFAX.RU informed.
He stressed that the decision of the country’s leaders is also necessary for the withdrawal of troops.
According to the Minister, at present the CSTO peacekeeping forces are carrying out tasks of protection of possible military, state and socially significant objects in the territory of Kazakhstan.
It should be reminded that the protest actions in Kazakhstan started in the first days of 2022, in the town of Janaoze and Aktau Mangistau region (south-west of the country), where residents rallied against high fuel prices. Two days later, riots broke out in Almaty (east), the republic’s former capital and the largest city.
In response, the authorities declared a state of emergency throughout the country until 19 January and launched an anti-terrorist operation.
