The President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stated that the CSTO peacekeeping forces will remain in the country until the situation is completely stabilized. Earlier, his spokesman said that the peacekeeping mission in Kazakhstan will end in a week at most, after which the foreign troops will leave the country.
CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zas had earlier said that peacekeepers would be brought in for a short time.
It should be reminded that the protest actions in Kazakhstan started in the first days of the New Year. Residents of the town of Janaoze and Aktau protested against the doubling of the price of liquefied natural gas, which the Ministry of Energy explained by the fact that from 1 January, prices on the electronic stock exchange began to form on the basis of supply and demand.
It should be noted that a state of emergency has been declared in the country amid mass unrest.
