By the decree of the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev , a state of emergency has been declared in the Alma-Ata region since 5 January. The press service of the President of Kazakhstan reported on Wednesday, according to TASS report.
A state of emergency has been declared in the Alma-Ata area from 12:30 a.m. 5 January, 2022 until 19 January, 2022 at 00:00, to ensure public safety, restore law and order, and protect citizens’ rights and freedoms in connection with a threat to civilian security. A curfew will be imposed in the Alma-Ata region,” the decree reads.
It should be reminded that the protest actions in Kazakhstan started in the first days of the New Year. Residents of the town of Janaoze and Aktau protested against the doubling of the price of liquefied natural gas, which the Ministry of Energy explained by the fact that from 1 January, prices on the electronic stock exchange began to form on the basis of supply and demand.
