The first case of death from the “Omicron” strain

The world’s first death from “Omicron” strain in a Covid-infected patient was reported in the UK on Monday. In the past, this type of coronavirus was considered less aggressive than the previous ones or more contagious. The strain is spreading really fast all over the world. Earlier in the week, the first cases were reported in China and Hungary. TASS News Agency reported.

The “Omicron” strain has been found on all continents (except Antarctica) in 64 countries around the world, including Russia, where it has been found in 16 people arrived from South Africa.

The highest number of infected people was registered in Great Britain – more than 3 thousand people, more than 1200 infected people were found in Denmark.

South Korea has tightened quarantine measures since Monday. Most public facilities, including catering, require a vaccination certificate or a negative PCR test to enter.

However, the World Health Organization reports that there is evidence to suggest that existing vaccines are less effective against the “Omicron” strain.
