Armenia is ready to be involved in the peaceful settlement process of the Karabakh conflict: Ambassador

The Armenian Embassy in Austria informs ․

On July 29, the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Armenia to the OSCE, Ambassador Armen Papikyan addressed the issue of “The aggression of Azerbaijan against Artsakh and Armenia with the direct involvement of Turkey and foreign terrorist fighters” included in the agenda of the OSCE Permanent Council.

He informed about the Azerbaijani armed attack on the Gegharkunik section of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border on July 28-29, as a result of which three Armenian servicemen were killed and four were wounded.

Ambassador Papikian noted that the lack of a proper response from the international community to the blatant violation of the principles of the Helsinki Final Act in connection with the war unleashed by Azerbaijan against Artsakh, the commitments made during that time, the mass atrocities against the Artsakh people, as well as the blatant violation of the principles of the Helsinki Final Act as a key policy tool, endangering regional peace and security.

In this context, the Ambassador reminded that the Armenian Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the military provocation of Azerbaijan, which further undermines regional peace and security, and that the entire responsibility for further aggravation of the situation lies with the military-political leadership of Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijan’s armed provocations are a logical continuation of the aggressive, belligerent rhetoric of that country’s leadership. In this context, Ambassador Papikyan referred to the unfounded territorial claims made by the President of Azerbaijan to Armenia.

In this context, Ambassador Papikyan noted with regret that so far the Swedish Foreign Minister, the OSCE Chairman-in-Office, has not referred to or condemned the gross violations of the ceasefire by Azerbaijan in recent days.

Speaking about the verdicts in the cases of Armenian prisoners of war on various false charges in Azerbaijan, Ambassador Papikyan strongly condemned these steps of Azerbaijan, which contradict the provisions of the trilateral statement of 9 November, 2020.

Ambassador Papikian stressed that Azerbaijan, by continuously increasing tensions both on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and in Artsakh, aims to end the resumption of the Karabakh peace process under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs.

Ambassador Papikyan stressed that Armenia is ready to be involved in the peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict and will continue to support the realization of the right of the people of Artsakh to self-determination.
