Azeris do not think that their problem is completely solved: MP Anna Grigoryan

Within the framework of the “Women in the Legislative” series, Iravaban.net spoke with Anna Grigoryan, an independent deputy of the National Assembly.

We talked with the deputy about the atmosphere in Syunik, border security, participation in the extraordinary parliamentary elections.

– Mrs. Grigoryan, you were born in Kapan. Can you tell us what atmosphere exists in Syunik currently? What changes have taken place during 6-7 months?

– I think most of the people of Syunik feel the effects of the war on their skin. The Azerbaijanis are standing only 100-200 meters away from Kapan airport. It was completely rebuilt and ready for operation, but at the moment it does not work, because we do not know whether it will be possible to carry out normal flights in the presence of Azerbaijanis. I am not talking about the fact that the Kapan-Front section is under the target of the Azerbaijanis, if they decide to close the road, people will remain in a vacuum, they will not be allowed to be displaced.

We know the situation in Shurnukh. I am sorry that people living in other parts of our country do not fully realize this picture. It cannot be said that the war is over. Yes, there is a ceasefire, but the war is not over until there is a peace treaty.

– What do you think, what awaits us in 5 years? Aliyev has already stated that the situation is under control even without the peacekeeping forces, maybe he will not agree to extend that term.

– Azerbaijan does not consider that it has solved its problem completely. It is clear to them that they are not in Stepanakert. At the moment, there are different atmospheres in Azerbaijan. They do not understand why the Azeri soldier is not standing in Stepanakert, and why the Russian peacekeeper is standing there. The same is for Turkey. All the “players” in the region are being rearranged at the moment. Armenia needs broad consolidation, together with all forces and resources. I have the impression that we do not look too far strategically.

– The last visit of the Prime Minister to Syunik was warmly received by a part of the residents. What do you think about what happened? Was the reaction of the citizens appropriate?

– It was anger, which was expressed by our people. People who have lost their homes do not know what their future will be like, they do not know whether there will be a “Meghri corridor” or not. In this case, wasn’t such a reaction natural? I think that in general, such expressions made towards the head of the country, ministers, deputies, citizens are unacceptable. However, one can understand the psychology of the people who survived the whole war, it did not leave them. An Azerbaijani is standing in front of their house.

A deputy from the NA “My Step” faction made such an expression that I think he should bear the consequences. I am talking about Hrachya Hakobyan, who said that they should be brought in a humiliating them. What does it mean to be humiliated, who do you represent, do you want the people of Armenia to be humiliated?
