The head of the main opposition Republican People’s Party of Turkey, Kemal Kilicdaroglu, said that President Tayyip Erdogan did not respond properly to the recognition of the Armenian Genocide by US President Joe Biden .
“RIA Novosti” news agency reported
“This is the point where the incompetent administration led Turkey. Biden announced (about the genocide), after which Erdogan was silent for three days. Someone expected Erdogan to roar like a lion in response, and everyone would hear him. But forget about the lion – he spoke like a cat. Sadly, but this is a fact,” Kilicdaroglu said, speaking in front of the parliamentary faction of his party.
He also recalled that no US president before Biden called the events of 1915 genocide.
“Why has this happened now? He is doing what he considers necessary within the framework of his domestic policy. There is no point in getting angry with Biden, you better look at yourself,” said the leader of the Turkish opposition, accusing the country’s leadership of the lack of a coherent foreign policy.
“The events of 1915 are painful, and, if necessary, they must be studied. This task must be fulfilled by historians. Turkey stated that it is always ready for this. Let Armenia open its archives. Let historians study real documents,” Kilicdaroglu added.
It should be reminded that in his address to the Armenian people on 24 April, US President Joe Biden officially recognized the Armenian Genocide for the first time among US presidents. Biden used the term “genocide” in his message.
It should be noted that in recent days rumors have been circulating that Biden intends to recognize the Armenian Genocide. US media quoted sources in the US presidential administration saying that Biden had even informed Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of his intention.
