During the Artsakh war, conscript Tigran Melikyan fought in Jrakan (Jabrail).
Tigran told Iravaban․net how the war began, “A loud explosion was heard․ The weapons depot was blown up. An alarm was sounded immediately. We quickly reached the front line, which no longer existed. The enemy came from Lalalaika Mountain with armored vehicles and entered our positions, on the first day they reached until the command post․ Only a few positions were kept. Very large forces were used to attack Jabriel’s positions.
We had stopped the cars 4 km away from our rear control point and were going on foot, they were firing shells all the way, when we arrived and positioned, five tanks came and stood next to us, started firing in our direction. At that moment we thought, it was end. We managed to enter the trench and move unless the tanks were neutralized,” Tigran said.
On the second day he and his comrades-in-arms were taken to the front line, on the third day the enemy attacked from the rear.
“We withdrew from the positions, we were instructed to position ourselves in the Araks valley, where for 5 days we gave a “close-in fighting” with firearms and destroyed a lot. The MOB guys were with us. “We were under siege, they could not bring us bread and ammunition,” he said.
Tigran’s name appeared in the list of victims 3 times.
“Whoever had a good commander was saved,” he says.
