Reuters reports that the “Islamic State” terrorist group has claimed responsibility for the attack in the Austrian capital Vienna.
A series of gun attacks took place in central Vienna on Monday evening, with one of the targets being a synagogue. Austrian authorities called the attack a terrorist act. One attacker was killed and police are searching for possible accomplices.
At least 14 people have been detained in Austria, and two more have been arrested by Swiss authorities.
Five people were killed in the attack, including the terrorist himself, who, according to the Austrian Interior Ministry, was a supporter of the “Islamic State” group.
More than 20 people were injured.
