Macron issues a statement after armed attacks in France

French President Emmanuel Macron delivered an address to the nation after a man armed with a knife staged an attack in a cathedral in Nice, RIA Novosti reported.

The French leader said that the country was once again subjected to an “Islamist terrorist attack.”

“Three of our citizens were killed this morning in the Notre Dame Basilica in Nice,” the president said.

He arrived in Nice a few hours after the attack. Macron is accompanied by Interior Minister Gerald Darmanen and Minister of Justice Eric Dupont-Moretti.

The President announced the strengthening of security measures in the country against the backdrop of recent events. In particular, before All Saints’ Day, the authorities will organize additional protection for churches, and after the holidays – for schools.

In addition, according to the head of state, additional servicemen will be mobilized in the near future; their number within the framework of the anti-terrorist operation Sentinelle will increase from three to seven thousand.
