France-Presse reports that after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s statement, France decided to recall its ambassador to Ankara for consultations.
Earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan commented on the words of his French counterpart Emanuel Macron about “enlightened Islam”. The Turkish politician said that Macron should “cure his psyche”.
“What is wrong with Macron with Islam and Muslims? The fact that the head of state treats millions of Muslims in his country in this way is primarily a loss of mind control. He needs to heal his psyche,” Erdogan said during a speech in the city of Kayseri, the broadcast was conducted on Twitter of the President.
Earlier, Macron delivered a major speech on the fight against separatism in France. The head of state said that on 9 December a corresponding bill will be presented: it will be aimed at strengthening republican values, and the French authorities will pay special attention to teaching children. Macron also said that together with the Council of Muslims of France, it is necessary to create an organization that will build “enlightened Islam” in the country. According to him, it is necessary “to free Islam <…> from foreign influence and strengthen control over the financing of mosques.”
