The conflict between the Armenian side and Azerbaijan in Nagorno Karabakh was of an ethnic nature from the beginning, starting with the crimes committed against the Armenian people.
Russian President Vladimir Putin stated this on Thursday at a meeting of the discussion club “Valdai”, Независимой газета (Independent Newspaper) reports.
“This conflict started not only as an interstate conflict, a struggle for territories, but also as an ethnic confrontation. Unfortunately, this is a fact, cruel crimes were committed against the Armenian people in Sumgait and then in Nagorno Karabakh. In general, all this must be taken into account,” the Russian leader said.
