Earlier, we reported that the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan decided to establish a humanitarian truce on 18 October at 00:00 local time.

The truce is often confused with the ceasefire, which is quite a different phenomenon. The truce usually lasts for a short period of time, usually several days. A ceasefire is a formal agreement to cease hostilities, which may be in the form of a document, an agreement or a treaty. A ceasefire can be quite long. A ceasefire can also be indefinite until a peace treaty is signed.

This decision was taken following the statement of the Presidents of the French Republic, the Russian Federation and the United States of America, representing the co-chair countries of the OSCE Minsk Group, of 1 October 2020, the Statement by the Co-Chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group of 5 October, and in line with Moscow Statement of 10 October 2020.
