Nikol Pashinyan on the Negotiations in the National Assembly

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has just come out from the negotiations with the MPs of the RPA, ARF Dashnaktsutyun and Tsarukyan factions in the National Assembly.

He made a speech in the yard of the National Assembly, telling what happened in the building of the NA.

First, Nikol Pashinyan addressed the citizens with a request. “You have won and nobody can take that victory. I want to say something very specific – I just want to say that this is a really different and completely new phase, I want to call on you, to encourage you to refrain from make a statement that contain personal offense against any of your political case,” he said.

The Prime Minister mentioned that they simply want to change one reality with another, and the old reality page is irreversibly closed.

“First I went to the room of “Yelk” faction where I met Aram Sargsyan, and then I learned that the MPs were assembled in the office of the NA Speaker Ara Babloyan, and I went there with my friends. We went up and said that we were here and we said that there is a political crisis in the country and that political crisis should be overcome. The representatives of the Republican Party, Tsarukyan Bloc and the ARF faction also said that this crisis should be overcome so that the country gains from all this,” the Prime Minister said.

He also mentioned that options were discussed and Nikol Pashinyan’s version was as follows: “I have to resign from the post of the Prime Minister in the coming days and I expect that the Republican Party and the current parliament will not exacerbate people because if I resign and the RPA, the Tsarukyan bloc or ARF Dashnaktsutyun nominate the prime minister, they can do and they can elect anyone else, so they should realize that it will bring a reaction of the public, that is, I said that it would be right that if such a scenario exists, it would not be a sensible scenario, in my opinion , it will cause people’s reaction. Speaking mildly, it would be a bad reaction,” Nikol Pashinyan said.

The Prime Minister noted that it would be better to sign a document that he would resign on any given day, after which the factions would not nominate a PM and that there would be no election for the first and second time, and as a result, extraordinary elections will take place in December.

“They said they essentially perceive the people’s message and respect the people’s message and position, and they spoke verbally saying that, despite the memorandum, they are not going to nominate a candidate for the Prime Minister either in the first or second round,” said Pashinyan.

Nikol Pashinyan also mentioned that the MPs asked a question why it is really necessary to conduct extraordinary elections, which is justified by saying “Is the reason for the investments, the economy, whether the cause is political certainty. There was even a question if the reason for that is the Karabakh issue and so on. I said the same what I had said earlier, the main reason is that the political crisis in the country is exists and that political crisis should be settled sooner or later,” he said.

According to the Prime Minister, the essence of this crisis is that a National Assembly, which does not represent the people and citizens of Armenia, has been set up in the country, and consequently, there is only one option for resolving that crisis and this is the extraordinary elections of the National Assembly.

He also mentioned when these elections should be held.

“I said our common position is that extraordinary parliamentary elections should take place in the first half of December,” he said, adding that the elections cannot be held later, as the political crisis in the country and the fact that in his status of the Prime Minister he feels that all issues in the country have been pushed to the second place. “Evryone who communicates with us during this period, writes a letter, calls, have only one question saying: hold early elections early. Currently people do nothing else. I told them that they are irritated and irritate people,” the Prime Minister said.

He also explained why the elections should be held in December and no sooner, as the Constitution provides clear instructions on the issue, and besides, they are now preparing for the Francophone Conference and do not want Armenia to fail to hold the event properly.
