The Winner of the “Citizen of the Year” Award is known

Today, Suren Kocharyan, the Head of Lusadzor Community of Tavush marz received the “Citizen of the Year” award by the National Network of Anti-Corruption Centers.

“This prize is provided to a person who has demonstrated a principled position and practice for the restoration of his violated rights and with the legal assistance of one of the Centers operating in all provinces, which is part of the National Network of Anti-Corruption Centers, he was able to restore violated rights in 2012,” Mr. Karen Zadoyan, “Armenia Against Corruption” Project manager said.

The legal issue, which Suren Kocharyan faced was that Rafik Ayvazyan, a resident of the same community applied to the Tavush Marz Court of General Jurisdiction with the demand to recognize his ownership right to the livestock complex in Lusadzor community of Tavush Marz. The court decided to satisfy the suit and the verdict was based on non-relevant evidence. In addition the court allowed a number of material and procedural errors. Moreover, the basis for satisfying the claim was that the court in addition to the evidence existing in the case had also the evidence contained in another civil case.

An appeal was filed against the above-mentioned judgment by the Anti-Corruption Center and the advocate of the program. The appeal was accepted by the RA Civil Court of Appeal and examined. As a result the court has satisfied the appeal. The verdict of the Court of General Jurisdiction of Tavush Marz of Armenia has been reversed and amended. The plaintiff also brought a cassation complaint against this decision, which was returned by the RA Court of Cassation.
